Short-Track Roundup: Gustin wins Super Nationals; more results
Six days and nights of racing and a record 843 cars in six divisions ended with Richie Gustin taking the top prize at the 29th-annual IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals at Iowa's Boone Speedway.

Gustin was crowned champion in the headlining modified division, as drivers from 24 states and Canada competed in qualifying features, heats and last-chance races during the week, vying for the 33 starting spots in Saturday night's finale.

Cody Nielsen topped the hobby stock finale and Scott Davis was best in the SportMod division on Saturday night. Sean Johnson, who also won a qualifying night feature earlier in the week, took the checkered flag in the stock-car finale.

The sport-compact class made its debut on the Tuesday night (Sept. 7) program, with Nathan Chandler the inaugural Super Nationals champion in that division.

The week started on Monday with Colby Springsteen collecting his first Deery Brothers Summer Series late-model triumph.

By the time the checkered flag waved on Saturday night, 3,217 laps on the third-mile dirt track were run, with drivers competing in 350 heats, qualifying features, B mains, last-chance features and main events.

Ruling the world

Jimmy Owens picked up a check for $44,000 for winning the 41st-annual World 100 dirt-late-model race on Saturday night at Ohio's Eldora Speedway.

Dream season

Kyle Larson on Saturday night continued his dream season by winning the 58th-annual Gold Cup Race of Champions World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series race at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Calif.

The 19-year-old Elk Grove, Calif., native brought his winning ways to his home state, outrunning WoO regular Jason Sides for the victory.

Larson enjoyed an unbelievable season, which has seen him win in four different United States Auto Club divisions, the NCRA-sanctioned Belleville Midget Nationals and several American Sprint Car Series events.

“I would have never dreamed of getting a World of Outlaws win, let alone in a race like this,” said Larson, who also won Thursday night's USAC-CRA Sprint Car Series race that was part of the four nights of racing that made up this year's Gold Cup.

“I've been coming to this race since before I even turned a year old, and now I'm standing here holding the Gold Cup. This is absolutely surreal and I can't believe it.”

Paul McMahan won Friday night's World of Outlaws preliminary feature and David Prickett topped the USAC Western States midget feature on Thursday. Greg DeCaire topped the Civil War Sprint Car Series 360 sprint-car race, which kicked off the week on Sept. 8.
